The most anticipated part of my post-Christmas adventures in central Stockholm, or Stockholm City, were the seasonal lights and decorations around the area. This time of year, the sun is up from about 8/8:30 until 2:30, so the city lights are a major part of your experience in the late afternoon and entire evening.
I did some research in advance, and my main must-see lights and sights were the following:
- Kungsträdgården
- Skeppsbron
- NK
- Kulturhuset/Sergels Torg
- Gamla Stan
- Central stationen
- Kungsgatan
- Åhléns
- Skansen
- Grand Hotel
- Strandvägen
My top three favorite views of Stockholms Jul were
Strömbron
From Strömbron, the heart of Stockholm quietly glitters. The bridge offers views for 360 degrees- Grand Hotel, Strömkajen, Skeppsholmen, Skeppsbron, Kungliga Slottet, Riksdagen, Operakällaren, o Kungsträdgården, all with great lights complemented this year by champagne glass-like lightpost decor. See a 360 degree video here.
Sergels Torg
A moose family in the forest takes center stage in Sergels Torg.
Åhléns
It is almost impossible to miss Åhléns in Stockholm’s Christmas nights. String lights and Christmas baubles are strung across one of its main cross streets, and Christmas trees line the building. The massive department store’s perfume section also shines wonderfully in the dark.
More photos of Stockholm at night to come!
